Roy's Golf Lessons with Pat McGuire
Lesson 1 - 4/19/07
Informational
- the shoulders control the path of the club
- the spine can only turn about 4 degrees
- at the top, the strongest right forearm/bicep angle position is 90 degrees
Going Back
- increase width of backswing
Coming Down
- left arm rotates fine on backswing, but more rotation needed on downswing
- approach impact with back of left wrist bowed (supinated)
- turn left wrist down towards the ground through impact (no cupping)
- post on left leg solidly before release/turn
Post Impact
- arms extend fully outward
- keep club lined up with body until navel faces target
- allow head to come up
- keep turning upper body with speed through to the finish
Drills
- sand wedge half swings from 9 o'clock through to 3 o'clock.
Post on left leg and bow left wrist at delivery position. Club lines up with body starting from impact through to abbreviated finish. Bring club back to impact and check that the shaft angle has not passed the arms.
- sand wedge full swings and take right hand off at impact. Continue left arm through to full finish and max-out shoulder turn
